Welcome to our BIG LAP TRIP PAGE: We need to make it clear, our Big Lap Trip is exactly that. It includes all of our travel, camping setups, walks, hikes, visiting family, friends and running our business ventures from our caravan.

Please note: Let me be clear. Having Time Out is included in our Big Lap Trip but is not expected to consume us.

Working as a Team

We’ve chosen to do this journey together—literally and practically. Driving between camps, stopping for groceries or coffee, finding a good meal, navigating into camp, positioning the caravan, unhitching, setting up, and settling in—it’s all a shared effort.

Once we’re parked, we slow down and enjoy the place we’re in: walking, fishing, exploring local sights, and discovering regional cuisine.

When it’s time to move on, we shift smoothly into our well-practised routine—packing down, hitching up, completing safety checks, and leaving each campsite clean and tidy for the next travellers. Good systems bring peace, and we’re committed to mastering them.

This journey is more than just getting by on the road. It’s a way of life—chosen intentionally. We’re not just travelling; we’re living on our own terms and taking responsibility for the story we’re writing.

Rowena and I are genuinely excited to share the driving of our 200 Series Land Cruiser while towing the Jawa Retreat Escape Bunk.

What has inspired us to do our Big Lap?

We want to make this happen while we are in good health. We are both in our 70s. We have the funds to make it happen, and we need to get this trip out of our system.

It was over a meal at Malaga Markets, Perth, with Russell, Jahna, Rowena's sister, her husband and their son and family (who live in Perth) that we figured a trip to NSW would be wonderful.

Unfortunately, Kiani and her children were too ill to make it.

It was soon after that when Rowena and I decided that rather than travel directly to NSW, we would travel at our own pace, enjoy our trip, and make memories for our family.

To support our decision, we were reminded on October 13th 2025, of the traumatic 6 weeks we had to overcome in October 2024. At the time, we either attended a funeral or a memorial, one week after the other, six weeks in a row. These events triggered emotions for us both.

There was a lot of uncertainty, pain and questions at that time, and one year later, in 2025, we felt we needed to go ahead and make our Big Lap Trip happen!!!

Our setup doesn't have to be perfect. We can adapt as we travel.

We don't have to buy "everything" before we go.

With Starlink installed, we can keep in touch with everyone with great technology.

We are going to travel at our own pace, enjoy ourselves and go where we want.

  • We totally agree with the 3 x 3 x 3 Rule.

    1. Don't travel more than 300 klms or 3 hours per day.

    2. Set up before 3:00 pm.

    3. Stay a minimum of 3 days. (Maybe stay a month in one place)
